Overview

In the heart of Brooklyn’s vibrant dining scene sits Unoriginal Noodles, a deceptively named gem at 687 6th Ave. Despite what the name suggests, this restaurant delivers an unforgettable culinary experience deeply rooted in authenticity and simplicity. It’s a spot that celebrates tradition without pretense, where quality is quietly perfected in every bowl and bite.

The highlight here is undoubtedly the Spicy Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. The broth is a masterpiece—rich, layered, and soul-warming, inviting you to savor every sip. Its complexity belies the humble presentation. Tender, fall-apart beef melds beautifully with perfectly springy noodles and crisp vegetables, creating a harmony of textures and flavors. This dish alone justifies the trek to Brooklyn.

Equally compelling are the Sweet & Spicy Duck Wings. They strike a delicate balance with a vibrant sauce, enhanced by fried garlic and scallions that add crunch and depth. These wings transform a common appetizer into a distinctive culinary moment, revealing the chef’s skill and care in elevating familiar ingredients.

The kitchen, led by Malcolm, reflects a dedication to craft and heart. The dishes are prepared fresh from scratch, and the menu thoughtfully caters to a variety of diets, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. The space itself is modest, comfortable, and welcoming, fitting for its neighborhood crowd and a perfect refuge for those seeking genuine, comforting fare without fuss.

Unoriginal Noodles welcomes all—from ramen aficionados to casual diners—offering reliably consistent flavors with each visit. The atmosphere encourages lingering, fostering conversations that often wander from food to lighthearted topics like old Jackie Chan films, as shared by patrons who’ve been charmed not just by the food but by the warm hospitality.

For those searching for a neighborhood spot where authenticity meets subtle innovation, Unoriginal Noodles stands out. It’s more than a restaurant; it’s a space where culinary tradition is honored, and every meal feels like a quiet celebration of quality and care. Be it a spontaneous stop or a planned visit, expect a memorable experience that will keep you coming back for more.

There is no feeling like accidentally stumbling into one of the best meals you’ve ever had. This was my experience at Unoriginal Noodles. My only issue with the place is its own modesty reflected in its name. It should be called like “The Best Noodles” or something. But often is the case that greatness is tamed by modesty. Maybe that’s for the best. Are the noodles innovative or cutting edge? No, they are simple and all the better for it. The broth is out of this world I would purchase that alone and drink it. The noodles are perfect springy and chewy without being over cooked. I got the taiwanese spicy beef, the beef would disintegrate in your mouth. The veggies were perfectly crunchy as well. The owner was super nice and talked with us about old Jackie Chan movies he seems like a good dude that just loves to make a high quality product. I don’t know what more you can say this neighborhood is so lucky and I honestly don’t even know if they know what they have here. I will be thinking about this place till the next time I’m able to come back. Well done!

The chef, Malcolm was wonderful to begin with. We ordered taiwanese beef noodle soup as well as the spicy duck wings as an appetizer. We also got the Shirley Temple to drink, and all the parts of the meal were absolutely wonderful. We stumbled upon this place by accident and will definitely be coming back whenever in town. The chef along with the waiter were super welcoming and even spent time talking with us.

Fantastic food that is both authentic and innovative! All the ramen dishes my group tried were terrific, and the appetizers are great too, particularly the duck wings and the mochi fried tofu. Ambiance and service are great as well, just a really nice place to hang out!

The ramen noodle with confit chicken was so ORIGINAL despite the name of the place. Confit chicken is rarely on a menu and this one was particularly delicious. The flavors were so rich and complex. I will return and it is going to be hard to order anything else as I keep thinking how good and restorative is this dish. The tofu appetizer was also outstanding; so delicate. The light crunch of the crust and the silkiness were delightful. Can’t wait to go back!

Unexpectedly amazing ramen! We had been meaning to stop by for awhile, but now that we have visited, we will be sure to go back soon. We got the mochi fried tofu at the recommendation of the server and it was delicious. And for ramen we both got the chicken ramen which came with a whole chicken leg with meat that literally just fell off the bone just by using chopsticks. The drinks were really good too! Will be back to try the tonkotsu ramen soon!

We had a wonderful experience at Unoriginal Noodles! We ordered the mochi fried tofu, spicy pickles, sweet and spicy duck wings, chicken ramen, seafood ramen, and spicy Taiwanese beef noodle soup. All dishes were excellent (esp the mochi fried tofu and each of the ramen bowls! ). Malcolm, the chef/owner, couldn’t be nicer or more hospitable. The ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant and the restaurant is kid-friendly (which I appreciate with a 6 month-old baby!). Came here with family and friends and we will all be back again soon — make sure you don’t miss out!
